The Election Commission of Sri Lanka announced that vote counting for the upcoming general election will begin at 4:15 p.m. on November 14. The Chairman of the Election Commission provided this information in a special press briefing at the Department of Government Information today (November 12).
He emphasized that only verified results will be shared with the media to maintain accuracy, urging everyone to refrain from sharing unofficial results.
The Chairman of the Election Commission outlined the schedule, noting that postal vote counting will begin at 4:15 p.m., while regular vote counting will start around 7:15 p.m., after ballot boxes arrive at the counting centers.
The vote-counting process will proceed in three stages, such as Counting Individual Boxes. Each ballot box is opened and votes are initially counted, Party and Group Vote Tally, Following the individual count, votes are totaled for each recognized political party and independent group, MP Selection and Preferential Vote Counting, The final stage involves calculating the number of MPs each party or group can elect based on total votes. Preferential votes received by individual candidates are then counted to determine which candidates will fill the MP positions based on the highest votes.
The Election Commission will officially announce results only after thorough re-checking.
