Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premadasa has warned that the new government might face the same financial crisis as the previous one, being unable to start debt repayments in 2028. Speaking at a rally in Avissawella, Premadasa criticized the government's alleged plans to close the Thriposha factory, a move he said would impact the health of mothers and children across the country.

Premadasa remarked, "President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who claimed to stand for the oppressed, quickly turned against the nation’s vulnerable by planning to close the Thriposha factory just a week into office.” He accused the government of attempting to shut down the factory through a private company and pledged that his party would fight against this decision. “When they learned of our opposition, they began denying the closure plans. But why was a gazette notification issued on September 27, so soon after the President took office?” he questioned.

Premadasa also criticized the government’s approach to worker rights, noting that those who previously used the grievances of working people are now dismissing trade unions as irrelevant. He urged the public not to be misled by false promises, warning that if the current government continues in office, the country will face another financial crisis in 2028. He explained, "Debt repayments will begin in 2028, and failure to meet these obligations could lead the country towards bankruptcy.”
