Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya stated that Sri Lankan law enforcement operates without political influence, following directives from the current government to apply laws equally to all citizens.
Speaking at the opening of a new building at Chunnakam Police Station in Jaffna, Weerasooriya remarked, "The government has directed me to ensure that the law is enforced equally, and I have conveyed this to all officials." He highlighted that since the last presidential election, no cases of post-election violence were reported, showing a new era in Sri Lankan society and indicating the public’s support for unbiased law enforcement.
He emphasized that any failure to apply the law fairly would reflect poorly on the police force and its leadership, adding, "We now have an environment where legal actions are free from external pressure."
