The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has ramped up efforts to crack down on vendors selling rice above the government-set control price. The CAA's investigation division reported that over 2,800 raids have been conducted so far this year, resulting in legal cases against 425 shops caught overpricing rice.
Additionally, the CAA has taken action in 2,060 cases where shops failed to display price lists, and 240 shops have faced legal proceedings for allegedly hiding rice stocks.
In related news, M.M. Naimudin, Secretary to the Ministry of Trade, announced that a report on the current rice and paddy stocks has been submitted to the President.
The government will consider this report to decide on further measures to manage rice supply and pricing.
