The Ministry of Defence has announced a temporary extension for the deadline on the return of firearms and ammunition issued to civilians for life protection. Initially set for the 7th of November, the new deadline is now extended to the 21st of November.
In a press release issued on the 6th of October, the Ministry of Defense had instructed all civilians holding firearms licensed for personal protection to surrender them to the commercial explosives warehouse of the Navy in Welisara by yesterday.
However, following requests from various licensees—especially those currently abroad—the Ministry has opted to extend the deadline to accommodate these concerns.
The announcement assures that all affected licensees will be directly informed about the new deadline and the surrender process. The Ministry of Defense urges all holders of firearms to comply with the updated guidelines and return their weapons by the revised date.
The decision to extend the deadline comes amid growing efforts to regulate civilian access to firearms in the interest of national security and public safety.
