President says that IMF third tranche likely by January end or Early February
In a statement to the media, President Dissanayake confirmed that an IMF delegation is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka next week to conduct the third review of the country's economic performance. He noted that such reviews typically take around three months to complete.
“The government is hopeful that once the third tranche is received, it will bring much-needed economic stability to the country,” Dissanayake said, adding that the funds will play a crucial role in supporting the nation's ongoing recovery and financial reforms.
Sri Lanka entered into a $2.9 billion agreement with the IMF in March 2023 to stabilize its economy, which has faced severe challenges due to debt, inflation, and foreign exchange shortages. The first two tranches were released earlier this year, with the third disbursement expected to follow pending the completion of the upcoming review.
