New Online Passport Appointment System for Sri Lankan Applicants
To apply for a Sri Lankan passport, all applicants must first register online via the official website at [www.immigration.gov.lk](http://www.immigration.gov.lk). Prior registration is mandatory for submitting applications, and applicants must complete this step before proceeding with their passport submission. Registration will begin on November 6, 2024, and the acceptance of applications will commence on December 4, 2024.
1. Registration Requirement: Applicants must register through the online system using their valid National Identity Card number and mobile phone number. For minors under 16, the National Identity Card number of the mother or father must be provided during registration.
2. Appointment Booking: Once registered, applicants will receive an SMS with the date and time for submitting their passport applications at the relevant immigration office. It is crucial to attend the appointment before 12:00 noon on the assigned date, bringing all required documents, including the passport application and photo receipt from an approved photo studio.
3. No Walk-ins Allowed: The new system mandates that applicants must secure a date and time through prior registration. Visiting the Department without a reserved appointment will not be accepted.
4. Regional Centers: In addition to the Head Office, applicants can visit regional offices in Matara, Kandy, Kurunegala, and Vavuniya as part of the new system.
5. One Day and Normal Service: The new methodology applies to both One Day Service and Normal Service passport applications.
Important Dates:
- Registration Opens: November 6, 2024
- Application Acceptance Begins: December 4, 2024
- Current Methodology for Applications: Valid until December 3, 2024.
Applicants are urged to ensure they meet all requirements before registering, and to keep track of their appointment details via SMS notifications. The Department stresses that failure to attend the appointment will result in losing the reserved slot, and applicants will need to re-register for another date.
