Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), criticized the current government for failing to keep its promises regarding tax cuts, fuel price reductions, and eliminating long queues for passports. Speaking at a gathering in Avissawella, Premadasa emphasized that the people of Sri Lanka need real public service rather than mere media shows.

He stated, “The JVP government led by the current president is providing entertainment instead of governance. They promised to end the passport queues during the presidential election but have not delivered on that promise.”

Premadasa pointed out that solutions offered through text messages and social media have been ineffective, with queues only getting longer. He highlighted that the government had also pledged to reduce the value-added tax, advance personal income tax, and PAYE tax, but these taxes remain unchanged.

He noted, “They previously claimed they would not rely on the International Monetary Fund, yet they have chosen to work with them now. They said they wouldn’t be bound by the fuel price formula, but now they are.”

The SJB leader expressed frustration over the government's limited fuel price reductions, stating that only 95 octane petrol and Super Diesel prices were lowered, benefiting the wealthy rather than the general public. He questioned why electricity tariffs were not reduced despite previous promises.

Premadasa concluded by stating that the public deserves genuine service rather than theatrical displays from the government.
