Sri Lanka is on track to exceed its target of 2.3 million tourist arrivals for 2024, showing a significant increase from the 1.4 million tourists welcomed in 2023. By October, Sri Lanka had already recorded 1,620,715 arrivals, indicating steady growth in tourism.
According to the latest data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, October saw a total of 135,907 tourists, surpassing the 122,140 recorded in September. October 2024 also showed an increase of over 20,000 arrivals compared to the same period last year. The fourth week of October saw the highest arrivals for the month, with 31,076 tourists.
India has contributed the most tourists so far, with 322,973 visitors, followed by the United Kingdom with 146,670 arrivals. A significant number of tourists have also been recorded from Russia, Germany, France, and China.
