The Department of Immigration and Emigration has announced that Sri Lanka is set to receive reserved 750,000 new passports on time in the coming months.
According to the department, 100,000 passports will arrive by the end of November, followed by 150,000 more in December. So far, 50,000 passports have already been received as part of an agreement with a foreign agency contracted for passport production.
Additionally, steps are underway to procure further batches of passports to meet the growing demand. Currently, the department issues around 1,600 passports daily and plans to implement a program to ensure a sufficient supply of passports in the future.
The department also stated that an online booking system will be launched soon, allowing applicants to reserve specific dates and times for their appointments.
