Former MP Udaya Gammanpila has alleged that the President and the government have a deal with the Ilangai Thamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) to appoint former MP M.A. Sumanthiran as the next Foreign Minister following the upcoming general election.

In his statement, Gammanpila noted that while he respects Sumanthiran’s right to hold a ministerial position, he is concerned about two specific conditions allegedly agreed upon by the government. “The first condition is the implementation of a new constitution to make Sri Lanka a federal state,” he said, adding that he believes this move could divide the country along ethnic lines.

Gammanpila also claimed that, under the second condition, the President has agreed to support the 2015 United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) resolution against Sri Lanka and conduct what he called a “war hero hunt.”

“No government in history has acted this way to protect political allies within its first month,” Gammanpila said, expressing concern for National People’s Power (NPP) supporters who voted for the current leadership.

Additionally, he announced plans to launch a public petition to urge the government to remove the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, Ravi Seneviratne, who was previously implicated in a Special Commission inquiry on the Easter attacks.
