Former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte, arrested on charges of illegally using a luxury car imported and assembled in Sri Lanka, has been transferred to the prison hospital.

Ratwatte was taken into custody by Mirihana Police on October 31 in Katugastota, Kandy, and later appeared before the Acting Magistrate of Nugegoda, who ordered his remand until November 7.

The arrest stemmed from the discovery of an unregistered luxury car found on October 26 at a three-story house in Mirihana, Nugegoda, belonging to Ratwatte's wife, Shashi Prabha Ratwatte. Police located the vehicle without license plates following a tip-off.

During questioning, Ratwatte and his wife explained that the house is occupied by his mother-in-law and claimed that the car was brought three weeks ago by Ratwatte’s private secretary, recently found dead with gunshot wounds in Kandy.
