The new Sri Lankan government has confirmed its dedication to the IMF-supported program aimed at meeting fiscal and debt targets, according to Krishna Srinivasan, IMF Director for the Asia Pacific Department.

Following the government’s recent inauguration, an IMF mission visited Sri Lanka, holding what Srinivasan described as productive talks with the president and his team. These discussions highlighted Sri Lanka’s progress under the IMF program and stressed the importance of maintaining and building on these achievements.

“The new government is fully committed to the IMF-supported program, both in terms of the fiscal targets and debt targets,” said Srinivasan, noting the steady progress made so far and confirming that discussions will continue.

A Sri Lankan delegation recently visited Washington, D.C., to advance these talks, and an IMF mission is scheduled to return to Sri Lanka soon for the next program review.
