The Chennai Super Kings have announced the retention of Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana for the upcoming 2025 Indian Premier League season, securing his services for IND Rs 13 crore. However, in a surprising move they have released fellow Sri Lankan bowler Maheesh Theekshana.
Former India captain MS Dhoni will continue with CSK, along with key players Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shivam Dube. Notably, Dhoni is classified as an uncapped player, as he hasn’t played for the Indian team in the last five years, with his last appearance being in the 2019 ODI World Cup.
According to the IPL Player Regulations issued by the IPL Governing Council, franchises are allowed to retain up to six players from their existing squads, including a maximum of five capped players and two uncapped players, through retention or the Right to Match (RTM) option.
CSK’s strategic decisions reflect their commitment to maintaining a competitive edge in the league, setting the stage for an exciting 2025 season.
