PM Harini Amarasuriya Questions Ranil's Constitutional Knowledge, Argument Continues
“He does not seem to understand that the public has changed and has rejected him. However, we have begun a new journey,” she stated. The Prime Minister emphasized that the core of the Constitution is the mandate of the people and questioned how someone who does not grasp this could teach others about it.
“A person who truly understands the Constitution wouldn’t postpone elections or interfere in the National Council or judiciary's decisions. He should know these basics before attempting to educate me on the Constitution,” she said.
PM Amarasuriya highlighted that past leaders' attitudes have harmed Sri Lanka, pointing out that the government, led by Anura Kumara Dissanayake, is working to change this political culture.
She also criticized Wickremesinghe’s recent remarks about Cabinet decisions not requiring approval from department officials, saying that this reflects his style of governance. “Our government considers the needs of the people and the advice of officials before making decisions. Our focus is on benefiting the public,” she explained.
The two leaders recently clashed over procedures related to the approval of salary increases for public servants. Amarasuriya argued that the previous government did not follow proper procedures, while Wickremesinghe insisted that Cabinet decisions do not need departmental approvals and questioned if the Prime Minister needed lessons on the Constitution.
