The Chinese government has announced a new aid package worth Rs. 400 million in emergency humanitarian supplies for Sri Lanka. This new support, the Chinese Embassy in Colombo confirmed, builds on an initial cash donation of Rs. 30 million provided to Sri Lanka's government for flood relief earlier this month.

During a meeting yesterday (October 30), Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya welcomed Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong at the Prime Minister’s Office to discuss these additional efforts. Ambassador Qi conveyed China’s commitment to aiding Sri Lanka in addressing the devastating impacts of recent floods, strengthening an already longstanding partnership between the two countries.

Prime Minister Amarasuriya expressed her gratitude for China’s quick response and noted that the aid was timely as Sri Lanka works to rebuild affected communities. She remarked on the importance of China’s role during this challenging period, emphasizing that such support reflects the deep, enduring ties between the nations.

In addition to immediate relief efforts, the conversation turned to future cooperation and development projects. Both leaders discussed strategies to enhance bilateral relations, focusing on potential investments in infrastructure, trade, and technology that could drive economic recovery and mutual growth. Ambassador Qi confirmed China’s willingness to explore new collaborative ventures with Sri Lanka to boost economic stability and resilience, reinforcing a shared goal of mutual prosperity.
