President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized that the government's main priority is to tackle rural poverty by maintaining close engagement with local communities. At an election public rally in Matara, he explained his vision for governance, stating that ministers should live and work within the communities they serve rather than basing operations from Colombo. This approach, he argued, would foster a more responsive and effective government.

In line with this policy, President Dissanayake announced that ministers elected to the next Parliament would not be provided with housing in Colombo. Instead, they will be expected to stay in their respective districts, directly engaging with citizens to understand and address local needs. He stressed the need for “government that connects with the people directly,” aiming to bridge the gap between leaders and communities to foster trust and transparency.

The president also outlined plans to establish a new cabinet and government following the upcoming election on November 14. This new administration will prioritize creating "people’s leaders" who are committed to resolving issues at the village level, with a strong emphasis on community presence and engagement.

“Our work must reach every village, as the most pressing challenge is to eliminate poverty in rural areas,” he added, underscoring his commitment to developing policies that target the root causes of poverty and improve the quality of life for those in underserved regions.
