The Supreme Court today (30 October) dismissed a petition seeking to reject the nomination of former MP Ranjan Ramanayake, who is running in the upcoming general election with the United Democratic Voice Party (UDV) in the Gampaha District.

A three-member judge panel, including Justices Preethi Padman Surasena, Kumuduni Wickremesinghe, and Achala Wengappuli, issued the dismissal after reviewing preliminary objections from the defendant's attorneys. The petition, filed by Gampaha District independent candidate K.M. Mahinda Senanayake, also requested a ruling to bar Ramanayake from obtaining a parliamentary seat and voting rights.

The case had listed the Election Commission, its members, Ranjan Ramanayake, and the Gampaha District Returning Officer as respondents.
