The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) to submit a detailed report on rice stocks across the country to the President this week. This follows an investigation by the CAA into rice and paddy reserves in key areas, including Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, and Ampara.

The CAA’s investigation focuses on the rice stocks held by small, medium, and large-scale mill owners to gain an accurate understanding of current supplies.

Additionally, the CAA has launched raids to enforce the controlled price of Rs. 220 for Nadu rice. Legal action will be taken against any sellers found pricing Nadu rice above this limit.

The President requested the report after a recent discussion with rice mill owners about a shortage of Nadu rice in the market. This report aims to help address the shortage and ensure fair pricing for consumers.
