Sri Lanka's recent discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have concentrated on taxation matters, including Value Added Tax (VAT) and revenue targets, Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Vijitha Herath reported.

He noted that the discussions in Washington aimed to align Sri Lanka's fiscal policies with IMF recommendations but emphasized that no final decisions have been reached.

The talks involved key Sri Lankan officials, including the Central Bank Governor, the Treasury Secretary, and the President's Economic Advisor. Currently, the tax aspects of the IMF agreement are still under review, with further details expected at an upcoming media briefing by the officials who attended.

Minister Herath added that an IMF delegation recently visited Sri Lanka to engage with the new government and explore its future collaboration plans with the IMF. He clarified that no in-depth discussions on the agreement took place during the IMF delegation's visit early in this month.
