The Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) reported to the Colombo Magistrate's Court that two suspects, recently apprehended in connection with intelligence on a potential terror attack at a popular tourist site in Sri Lanka, will continue to be held for further questioning. The TID presented a confidential report to Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasena today (October 29), detailing the progress of the investigation and the suspects' alleged involvement. The Additional Magistrate requested that the TID submit updates on further developments.

The suspects’ arrest and ongoing investigation follow a series of travel alerts issued by foreign governments. On October 23, Israel’s National Security Council advised its citizens to exit tourist hotspots in southern Sri Lanka, specifically Arugam Bay, labeling it a level-four threat. In response, the US, Russian, and UK embassies also urged citizens to exercise caution, avoid large gatherings, and remain vigilant. The warnings also recommended precautionary measures, including concealing visible signs of identity and refraining from public gatherings.

Security has since been reinforced at major tourist sites, and three suspects have been arrested as part of the investigation.
