Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Vijitha Herath has dismissed social media claims suggesting that the government obtained fresh loans and printed money.

He clarified that no new borrowing has occurred from any country or institution. The Central Bank issues new securities as part of the regular process when old ones mature, and the same approach was applied in this instance as well.

Minister Herath emphasized that no new money had been printed, adding that the President’s signature would appear on any newly printed currency as the Finance Minister. He challenged anyone to present a note with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake's signature, confirming no such notes exist. Herath labeled the rumors of a billion rupees being printed as entirely false.
