The Election Commission has announced that voters in the 2024 General Election will be marked on their left index finger. The Commissioner General of Elections stated that if a voter lacks a left index finger, an alternative finger on the right hand will be marked.
In previous elections, different fingers were used for marking to avoid confusion. During the 2024 Presidential Election, the left little finger was marked, while today’s Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election uses the left thumb.
The General Election is set for November 14, and the Commission believes this new measure will help prevent issues and confusions at polling stations.
