Minister Vijitha Herath announced that the Sri Lankan government has received positive feedback from countries, including the United States, regarding security measures implemented in popular tourist areas such as Arugambe.

Despite recent intelligence reports suggesting potential threats targeting the tourist hotspot, Herath assured that there has been no decline in tourist arrivals. He highlighted that a special security program has been activated across various zones following multiple meetings of the security council.

Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the reported threats and are currently under interrogation as investigations continue. The minister emphasized that all necessary precautions are in place to ensure the safety of visitors.

Tourists were observed enjoying their time freely in regions like Arugambe, Ella, Matara, and Galle. From January 2024 to October 20, a total of 1,570,644 tourists have visited Sri Lanka, with 85,836 arrivals recorded from October 1 to 20 alone. Notably, India remains the leading source of visitors this month, contributing 23,677 tourists.

The government's commitment to maintaining a secure environment is expected to bolster confidence among travelers and encourage continued tourism growth in the island nation.
