Sri Lankan police have exposed a scam involving fraudulent phone calls aimed at extorting money from Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) depots. The callers claim that a manager, senior officer or employee has been involved in an accident and urgently needs Rs. 10,000 for vehicle repairs.
Nine depots have reported such calls, with specific phone numbers provided for the transactions. Investigations revealed that the numbers were registered under the names of deceased individuals or foreigners.
Authorities are actively working to identify the culprits behind the scheme.
