Inflation Drops Significantly to -0.2% in September, Food Inflation Falls to 0.5%

Sri Lanka's inflation rate, as measured by the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI), fell to -0.2% in September 2024, down from 1.1% in August, according to the Department of Census and Statistics. Food inflation also dropped to 0.5% from 2.3% in the previous month.
The NCPI for all items in September recorded a decrease of 1.0 index points, with the index standing at 203.1. This reflects a Rs. 500.25 reduction in the market basket value. Non-food inflation also fell to -0.7% from 0.2% in August.
