The reopening of the Mahawa to Anuradhapura section of the Northern Railway Line has been postponed.

Mahawa to Anuradhapura section had been closed for renovations since January and was due to reopen tomorrow.

The delay is due to safety concerns raised by locomotive drivers over the lack of secure level crossings between Eppawala and Dahaiyagama stations.

As a result, the Yal Devi train from Colombo will only run to Mahawa. Renovation work of the Northern Railway Line is being funded by the Indian Government.
