EU Ambassador Carmen Moreno Meets with Prime Minister

The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Carmen Moreno, made a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya at the Prime Minister's Office in Colombo. The meeting reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between the EU and Sri Lanka, founded on mutual respect and cooperation, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office.

During the discussion, Prime Minister Amarasuriya emphasized the critical role of the EU’s GSP+ trade scheme in promoting Sri Lankan exports. She also outlined her administration’s plans to attract more foreign investment by tackling corruption and improving key institutions like the Board of Investment (BOI).

Additionally, the Sri Lanka Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Takafumi Kadono, held talks with Prime Minister Amarasuriya at the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday (October 18). The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the ADB’s support of various development initiatives and shared her hopes for continued collaboration to meet Sri Lanka’s future development objectives.

The meeting was attended by senior ADB officials, including Cholpon Mambetova, Head of Sri Lanka Operations, Herathbanda Jayasundara, Senior Social Development Officer, Udeni Udugahapattua, Director of the ADB Division, and Pradeep Saputantri, Prime Minister’s Secretary.
