The Government Information Department has clarified that the privileges extended to former presidents have not been withdrawn, countering media reports suggesting the government reclaimed all vehicles provided to ex-presidents.

According to the statement, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has returned 8 of the 16 vehicles assigned to him, and former President Ranil Wickremesinghe retains 11 vehicles.

The department emphasized that the return of these excess vehicles is part of ongoing efforts to reduce government expenses and optimize resource allocation, but that this move does not affect the key privileges and entitlements afforded to former heads of state.
