In a tragic incident on the railway line between Hingurakgoda and Gal Oya, a fuel train derailed after colliding with a herd of wild elephants. The accident resulted in two tankers toppling over, causing a significant disruption in rail services.

 

Authorities confirmed that two elephants lost their lives in the collision. Emergency services are on-site to manage the situation and assess any environmental impact from the fuel spillage. 

Sri Lanka Railways has announced that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident. Safety measures are being reviewed to prevent future incidents involving wildlife.
