Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya engaged in discussions today (17th October) with several university student unions to address the pressing issues impacting students' education and welfare. The meeting brought together representatives from multiple student groups, including the Inter University Students' Federation (IUSF), to tackle challenges that have remained unresolved.
The discussions centered on various concerns, such as the failure of the National Education Policy framework, threats to free education like private medical colleges and private universities, problems with student hostel accommodations, a shortage of academic staff, and the general standard of education.
PM Amarasuriya assured the representatives that the government is committed to finding long-term solutions and improving the conditions for university students across the country.
