Voter’s Thumb to be marked in place of little finger for Elpitiya local election

The Election Commission announced that for the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election on October 26, 2024, voters will have their left thumb marked with an appropriate sign to prevent double voting, as per Section 53a (3) of the Local Government Elections Ordinance (262nd Authority).
This decision was introduced in light of concerns about possible confusion during the polling process for the Presidential Election 2024, which took place recently.
According to the Election Commission, If a voter’s left thumb is unavailable, the mark will be placed on the right thumb or another suitable finger, ensuring transparency throughout the polling process.
