The leader of the United National Party (UNP), former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, has urged voters to choose parliamentary candidates who have demonstrated experience in handling economic crises, especially as the nation continues to face significant challenges.

In a special address prior to the upcoming parliamentary election, Wickremesinghe stressed that those who have collaborated with him over the last two years are ideally positioned to lead the country forward.

“In these challenging times, it is essential to have leaders in Parliament who are adept at managing economic crises. Regardless of whether they are in the opposition or the government, lacking this experience will hinder their ability to achieve the nation’s objectives,” the former president stated.

He also called on supporters from all political parties to back experienced candidates. Wickremesinghe extended a particular message to those who did not vote in the last election, emphasizing that to address the country’s economic issues and progress, it is crucial to have capable individuals in Parliament.

He highlighted that the nation’s future relies on electing leaders with the necessary skills to tackle economic challenges and ensure recovery.

Reflecting on his leadership during the last presidential election, in which he campaigned under the 'gas cylinder' symbol with extensive support from various political parties, including the UNP and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), Wickremesinghe noted the continued strength of this coalition.

“A number of MPs and UNP officials who have worked alongside me are now coming together for this election under the 'New Democratic Front'. Their experience and commitment will be crucial for achieving success in this new parliamentary term,” he remarked.

Wickremesinghe concluded his remarks by urging citizens to cast their important votes for candidates capable of steering the nation through this pivotal time, asserting, “If we are successful in this endeavor, we can restore the country and build a brighter future for everyone.”
