President Anura Kumara Dissanayake underscored the necessity of overhauling Sri Lanka's education system to meet international standards and fulfill the nation's educational objectives. He emphasized that equipping children with knowledge is essential for enhancing the country's human capital, which is vital for Sri Lanka's future development. The President also pointed out that it is the duty of education officials to prepare the workforce required by the global market over the next decade, highlighting the need for educational initiatives to align with this goal, as stated by the President's Media Division (PMD).

These comments were made today (October 16) during a progress review meeting of the Ministries of Education, Science, and Technology held at the Presidential Secretariat.

During the session, led by President Dissanayake and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, a comprehensive discussion took place regarding five significant projects currently being executed by the Ministries of Education, Science, and Technology.

The meeting concentrated on key areas, including modernizing school education, enhancing teacher training, advancing secondary education, boosting technical education, and fostering information technology education, according to the PMD.

Both the President and Prime Minister urged officials to hasten the execution of these projects. They also highlighted the importance of restructuring the existing school system to make educational reforms more accessible and effective for all children.

Additionally, discussions included plans to increase the number of schools that provide science, mathematics, and technology programs for Advanced Level students, the PMD noted.

The meeting was attended by several officials, including Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Secretary to the Ministry of Education Tilaka Jayasundara, and other ministry representatives.
