Government to Implement Plan to Pass Rupee Gains to Consumers

The Ministry of Trade has announced a new plan to ensure consumers benefit from the strengthening of the Sri Lankan rupee against the US dollar. Secretary of the Ministry, M.M. Naimudeen, stated that Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, who is also the Minister in charge, provided directives during a recent discussion.
As part of the plan, market prices will be reviewed, and food importers and producers will be urged to reduce prices. The Ministry aims to announce price cuts for food and other products within the next two weeks.
