Police have arrested a school teacher for allegedly sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl and the female Deputy Principal of the school for attempting to cover up the incident.
According to Police, the arrests were made following a thorough investigation initiated after a complaint was received through the police emergency hotline.
The 12-year-old girl was reportedly abused by a 51-year-old teacher at her school in the Mahawela area. After the incident, the girl informed the school’s Deputy Principal.
However, the 49-year-old Deputy Principal allegedly instructed the victim to remain silent about the incident, according to police.
Mahawela Police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
