Colombo High Court Judge Nawaratna Marasinghe has instructed the National Police Commission to investigate the acting Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Modara Police for his apathetic behavior during a case involving illegal wealth accumulation by a suspect.
Judge Marasinghe noted the acting OIC’s sluggishness and lack of engagement during the pre-trial proceedings. He issued a severe warning to the acting OIC and ordered the absent OIC, who was reported ill, to present a medical certificate at the next court session.
The acting OIC stated he was representing the ill OIC but failed to review the case adequately. The Deputy Solicitor General (DSG) informed the court that the acting OIC did not make any contact regarding the case, with only a police constable reaching out to him.
