One of the year's most spectacular meteor showers, the Perseid meteor shower, will be visible in Sri Lanka tonight, particularly after midnight and during the pre-dawn hours.

Stargazers across the country can expect a dazzling display as the meteor shower reaches its peak.

The Perseus constellation, a curved pattern of stars named after the Greek mythological hero Perseus, will be visible in the northern sky after midnight, serving as the backdrop for the meteor shower.

The Perseid meteor shower, which has been visible from Sri Lanka since July 17, will continue until August 24, with the peak occurring tonight (August 11) and early tomorrow morning (August 12). During this peak period, viewers can expect to see at least 100 meteors per hour around 1 a.m., all visible to the naked eye.
