Tourism Sector Generates USD 3.7 Billion in First Half of the Year

The Sri Lankan tourism sector has earned USD 3.7 billion in revenue during the past six months, according to Minister of Tourism Harin Fernando.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Ashoka Forest Meditation Center at the Seetha Amman Kovil in Nuwara Eliya this morning (03), Minister Wijitha Herath stated that another USD 3.7 billion in income is expected in the coming months of this year.

In a move to further promote religious tourism, the government has also decided to allocate an additional acre of land to the Seetha Amman Kovil in Nuwara Eliya for development activities.

The event was attended by Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha, who joined Minister Herath for the opening ceremony of the new meditation center, part of ongoing efforts to enhance spiritual tourism in the region.
