A suspect connected to the shooting deaths of Surendra Wasantha Perera, known as ‘Club Wasantha,’ and another individual has been arrested by the Western Province (South) Crimes Division.
The 36-year-old resident of Dharga Town was arrested on August 6 at a Southern Expressway service area and taken to the Athurugiriya Police Station. He faces charges of aiding and abetting the murders.
The suspect allegedly rented a house for the assailants and arranged transportation, including a van, to move the shooters and their weapons from Ambalangoda to Athurugiriya. Investigations revealed that the bus used for the escape was sold to an individual in Kataragama and has been seized by authorities.
To date, eleven suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting. Athurugiriya Police are continuing their investigation. The incident occurred on July 8 during the opening of a tattoo and piercing studio near the Clock Tower in Athurugiriya, resulting in six people being hospitalized. Both Surendra Wasantha Perera, aged 55, and a 38-year-old male succumbed to their injuries. Among the injured were popular singer K. Sujeewa and Wasantha’s wife.
