Four individuals, including two police officers from the same station and a mother and daughter, were killed in separate but interconnected shootings this morning (04) in the Moneragala area.
The incidents occurred in Moneragala, Namal Oya, and Inginiyagala.
Initially, a 33-year-old police officer from Karandugala Police Station was found shot dead at his residence in Namal Oya, Ampara, around 2:45 a.m. An unknown assailant had shot him and fled.
Later, a 54-year-old woman and her 17-year-old daughter were also found shot dead in Nelliadda, Inginiyagala.
In a separate incident, another police officer from Karandugala Police Station committed suicide by shooting himself with his service firearm inside the station.
Police suspect the 42-year-old officer who committed suicide was responsible for the earlier shootings before taking his own life.
