The Election Commission said that Viyani Gunathilaka, Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, has agreed to provide the necessary police officers for the upcoming Presidential Election. This decision followed discussions between Gunathilaka and Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Rathnayake.

On Tuesday, the Election Commission sent a formal letter to the President seeking a resolution for the Inspector General of Police's role in organizing the election. In response, the President's Secretary directed Gunathilaka to coordinate police deployment for election security.

Gunathilaka was instructed to attend the Election Secretariat for further talks.

On Wednesday, Gunathilaka confirmed that the President had granted special permission for collaboration with the Election Commission regarding police deployment.
