Sri Lanka Customs has achieved a remarkable income of Rs. 708 billion so far in 2024, from the Rs. 1,537 billion revenue target set for the year, according to Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.

Speaking at a certificate awarding ceremony for authorized economic operators organized by Sri Lanka Customs, Siyambalapitiya emphasized the department's significant contribution to the country's economy through consistent revenue generation.

This achievement is particularly noteworthy given the suspension of vehicle imports, traditionally a major revenue source for Customs.

In 2018, the last year vehicles were imported, vehicle imports accounted for Rs. 204 billion or 22% of the total revenue of Rs. 923 billion. In 2019, vehicle imports contributed Rs. 130 billion, representing 16% of the total income.
