A group of Buddhist monks, including Prof. Agalakada Sirisumana Thera from Colombo University, staged a march in Colombo demanding the reinstatement of Deshabandu Tennakoon as Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The procession, which began near Fort Railway Station and proceeded to the Bo Tree in Colombo-Fort, featured both foreign and child monks. Following religious observances at the Bo Tree, the group expressed that the Supreme Court should have allowed Tennakoon to complete his term.

The monks argued that Tennakoon's removal has impeded efforts to combat drug and underworld activities effectively.

Last week, the Supreme Court issued an order restraining Deshabandu Tennakoon from performing the duties and responsibilities of the IGP.
