A seven-year-old girl from Makulugaswewa sustained injuries when a loaded firearm, hidden in a corner of her house, accidentally discharged.
Investigations revealed that while the girl's mother and grandmother were changing clothes to go to the temple, the gun, entangled in a cloth, fell and misfired.
Police said that the girl's uncle, who had left his unlicensed gun in the house after using it to guard his fields against wild animals, is under arrest. The girl sustained injuries to her lower limbs.
The girl's uncle has been detained by Makulugaswewa police for further investigation.
