Wind speed can increase up to (60-65) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
The Department of Meteorology has issued a Red warning for strong winds and rough seas for naval and fishing communities in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
Very strong winds (70-80) kmph, and very rough sea are likely over Arabian Sea area bounded by 10N - 20N and 55E – 74E and Bay of Bengal bounded by 11N - 19N and 83E – 93E due to the active south-west monsoonal condition.
The naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the sea areas marked by ‘RED’ color on the map below until further notice
