Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena arrived in Parliament this morning, shortly after the parliamentary session commenced.

He is currently delivering a special statement.

In his address, Prime Minister Gunawardena is set to inform Parliament of the government’s official position on the recent Supreme Court decision regarding the post of the Inspector General of Police (IGP). This follows an urgent Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, July 24, where ministers decided to thoroughly review the legal aspects of the matter and announce their response within two days.

The Supreme Court had issued an interim order on Wednesday, preventing Deshabandu Tennakoon from performing duties and functioning in the position of IGP.
