A land officer from the Kekirawa Divisional Secretariat was arrested by investigators from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption. The 33-year-old officer, a resident of Diulankadawal in Polonnaruwa, allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs. 200,000 from a businessman to expedite a land grant.

Following a complaint lodged by the businessman, officials from the Bribery Commission launched an investigation. It is reported that the officer initially demanded Rs. 500,000 but settled for Rs. 200,000 as part payment.

The suspect was presented before Kekirawa Magistrate Mrs. D.P.M.S. Karunaratne and remanded until August 22. The magistrate instructed the Prison Superintendent to produce the accused before a Colombo magistrate on the specified date.
