Medical professionals have observed a significant rise in pediatric cases exhibiting wheezing symptoms following viral infections similar to influenza-like illnesses.

Speaking to the Zira Daily, Dr. Deepal Perera, a Consultant Pediatrician at Lady Ridgeway Hospital, urged parents to monitor their children's respiratory health closely.

"Wheezing can be a concerning symptom indicating narrowing of the airways, which may lead to difficulty in breathing," Dr. Perera stated.

He further stressed the importance of preventive measures, such as avoiding exposure to secondhand smoke. Dr. Perera also noted that persistent wheezing, accompanied by a chronic cough, warrants immediate medical attention.

"Parents should seek medical advice if their child experiences recurrent wheezing episodes or displays persistent respiratory distress," he advised.
