Excavation of the Kokkuthduvai mass grave has been completed and the final report would be submitted to the Mullaitivu magistrate.
JMO Mullaitivu General Hospital Dr, Kanakasabhapahti Vasudeva told the media yesterday that the excavations had been carried out in four stages and that it ended on Monday evening. He said skeletal remains of 52 bodies had been recovered and several uniforms similar to those of the Army, badges of LTTE cadres, cyanide capsules and cartridges were among other finds.
Excavations had been carried out by a team comprising Senior Professor of Archaeology, Kelaniya University Raj Somadeva, and JMO Dr. Kanakasabhapahti Vasudeva, in the presence of Mullaitivu Magistrate Dharmalingam Pradeepan.
Dr. Vasudeva said the skeletal remains were placed in a cubical at the Mullaitivu General Hospital under strict security on court order. He further said that the final report to be submitted to court would be prepared by Prof. Raj Somadeva and his team.
